Watercolour landscapes

A comprehensive look at different landscape subjects and paintings

This is the fourth series of the popular 6 landscapes in 6 weeks courses. Each of the six landscapes are studied in detail including why the subject was chosen and we also look at the important topic of composition. I then draw and paint each subject, with a full commentary and every stroke included. Also included are useful downloadable factsheets and subject photographs.

Course structure

A detailed look at the painting process

The course is designed to be taken over 6 weeks to allow ample time for study and practise. Lessons are released weekly from the date you first access the course but are then available indefinitely allowing you to take as much time over each lesson as you wish. The format for each week is the same. We begin by studying the subject to decide on a suitable composition and then the subject is drawn and painted. You will see every stroke in full high definition video as well as the important part of creating the colour mixes. Every step is fully explained. When your painting is finished you can upload it to the discussions group for a review by Grahame and your fellow students.

FAQ

  • Is this suitable for beginners.

The course requires some experience in watercolour. Basic techniques such as mixing and applying paint are not covered in this course. Complete beginners should try the free Starting Watercolour course first or have a look at my YouTube channel.

  • Must I complete each landscape in a week.

Not at all. From the time you first access the course, a subject will be added each week for six weeks but you can take the course at your own pace. You can even revisit the course as often as you like.

  • How can I get feedback on my paintings.

The course discussion group is a great place to ask for advice or ask questions. As well as myself, all of the members of the group have enrolled in the course so it is a good way to share ideas. I will also use the discussion group to notify students of additional material that may be added to the course.

  • What will I learn

The six subjects are varied and have been chosen to highlight many of the common features of the landscape. You will learn how to choose and compose a subject as well as how to approach the painting of the subject. I cover choice of materials, colour mixing and I will be passing on lessons learned during over 35 years of watercolour painting.

Grahame took us on a wonderful creative trip and I discovered so many new horizons. In every episode I recognized something new, e g. from soften the edges to organizing foreground, middle and background. In the past I did courses on water, waves and boats. However, in the very last challenge of this course, I learnt a totally new approach to these three topics. It really opened new perspectives for me. I was surprised with every reference photo how the motive was resolved. I especially appreciated the huge variety and diversity of the single motives. On top of that, the courses are presented in a very appealing way. Grahame keeps his explanations short, precise and comes to the point. This will not be my last course I have booked with you!
